Base Salary Range: $95,000 - $175,000 annually

Position Summary

GWx is seeking a Commissioning Engineer / Agent to join our Mission Critical Commissioning team. You will help verify that complex building and infrastructure systems are installed, tested, integrated, and performing in accordance with the owner's requirements and design intent. You will work alongside owners, engineers, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and operations teams throughout design, construction, startup, functional testing, and turnover.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Leadership

Commissioning at GWx is about proving that critical infrastructure performs when it matters most.

  • Develop and execute commissioning plans and procedures

  • Review design documents for commissioning, operability, maintainability, and system integration

  • Develop pre-functional and functional performance test procedures

  • Witness equipment startup, testing, and system demonstrations

  • Document deficiencies and track issues through resolution

  • Verify systems meet owner project requirements and design intent

Functional Performance & Integrated Systems Testing

Test facilities that simply cannot fail.

  • Perform and witness functional performance testing of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and life-safety systems

  • Support and lead Integrated Systems Testing (IST)

  • Verify sequences of operation and system responses

  • Evaluate equipment and system operation under normal, emergency, and failure conditions

  • Coordinate testing between interconnected building systems

  • Document test results and prepare commissioning reports

Project Leadership & Delivery

Lead commissioning execution throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and commissioning planning

  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, contractors, vendors, and equipment manufacturers

  • Perform site observations and construction-phase commissioning activities

  • Maintain commissioning logs, deficiency reports, and project documentation

  • Support project schedules and critical testing milestones

  • Assist with turnover, training, and project closeout

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with commissioning technologies and methodologies

  • Develop commissioning standards, procedures, and best practices

  • Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency and project delivery

  • Share technical knowledge across project teams

  • Pursue professional certifications

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor junior commissioning professionals

  • Review commissioning documentation and test procedures

  • Promote a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and continuous learning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline preferred

  • 4-10+ years of engineering, construction, operations, or commissioning experience

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, controls, and/or mission-critical systems

  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and control diagrams

  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills

  • Ability to travel to project sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mission Critical/Data Center commissioning experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • CxA, CCP, CBCP, or similar commissioning certification

  • Experience with functional performance testing and Integrated Systems Testing

  • Experience with hyperscale or high-availability infrastructure

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, NFPA, NETA, and commissioning industry standardsPhysical Requirements

The anticipated base salary range for this position is provided in good faith and represents GWx's reasonable expectation for compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, technical expertise, professional licensure, certifications, geographic location, project experience, and overall qualifications. This position may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and other benefits.
