Position Summary

GWx is seeking a Plumbing Engineer to join our Mission Critical Engineering team. You will design sophisticated plumbing and utility systems for AI campuses, hyperscale data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities, and other mission-critical environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Controls Design Leadership

  • Design Building Automation Systems (BAS), Building Management Systems (BMS), and related control infrastructure

  • Develop control diagrams, points lists, sequences of operation, network architectures, and specifications

  • Develop control strategies for HVAC, central utility plants, cooling systems, electrical infrastructure, and other critical systems

  • Coordinate BAS/BMS integration with EPMS, equipment controls, life-safety systems, and other facility platforms

  • Coordinate with architects and all engineering disciplines

  • Design systems for reliability, interoperability, maintainability, scalability, and lifecycle performance

Engineering Analysis & Technical Excellence

Engineer facilities that simply cannot fail through intelligent automation.

  • Develop and review complex sequences of operation

  • Evaluate system architecture, communications networks, control interfaces, and integration requirements

  • Review alarm management, trending, monitoring, and reporting strategies

  • Support cybersecurity and network segmentation requirements in coordination with technology teams

  • Evaluate system redundancy and failure responses

  • Support value engineering without compromising reliability or operational visibility

Project Leadership & Delivery

Lead technical execution throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Participate in planning, design reviews, controls workshops, and client meetings

  • Coordinate with owners, contractors, controls vendors, equipment manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Review controls submittals and shop drawings

  • Respond to RFIs and perform site observations

  • Support startup, point-to-point verification, functional performance testing, and Integrated Systems Testing

  • Support project managers with schedule and technical coordination

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging automation, controls, analytics, and intelligent building technologies

  • Develop controls engineering standards and best practices

  • Explore opportunities for advanced analytics, automated fault detection, and intelligent infrastructure

  • Share technical knowledge

  • Pursue professional certifications

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor junior engineers and designers

  • Review technical work and sequences of operation

  • Promote collaboration and continuous learning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline

  • 4-10+ years of controls, automation, or consulting engineering experience

  • Strong understanding of HVAC and building systems

  • Experience developing sequences of operation and controls documentation

  • Working knowledge of BAS/BMS architecture and communications protocols

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain

  • Mission Critical/Data Center experience

  • Experience with BAS/BMS and EPMS integration

  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP, and other building automation protocols

  • Experience with central utility plants, high-density cooling systems, and critical electrical infrastructure

  • Experience supporting commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles applicable to operational technology and building controls

The anticipated base salary range for this position is provided in good faith and represents GWx's reasonable expectation for compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, technical expertise, professional licensure, certifications, geographic location, project experience, and overall qualifications. This position may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and other benefits.
